Qatar Stresses Support for Dialogue and Diplomacy to Solve Hormuz Crisis

Doha, September 15, 2026 : Director of the Media and Communication Department at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs Ibrahim bin Sultan Al Hashmi stressed the State of Qatar's support for all diplomatic efforts aimed at ensuring freedom of maritime navigation, emphasizing the importance of reaching a comprehensive agreement that achieves sustainable peace in the region.

Qatar Calls for Consensus on Hormuz Solution

During the Ministry's weekly media briefing, Al Hashmi said Qatar supports reaching an agreement regarding the Strait of Hormuz, stressing that the current priority is for all parties to reach consensus on a solution to the crisis. He emphasized that freedom of navigation through the strait is vital for all nations, affirming that Qatar continues working closely with regional and international partners to build consensus and advance dialogue toward a comprehensive resolution.

Closure of Waterways Must Not Become "New Normal"

Al Hashmi reiterated that the closure of maritime waterways should not be treated as routine or acceptable by Qatar or the international community, urging global unity against any measures disrupting freedom of navigation.

Warning Over Potential Bab Al-Mandab Closure

He said the world is already suffering the effects of the Strait of Hormuz closure and cannot afford the added burden of a Bab Al-Mandab Strait closure as well, warning that disruption to both waterways would carry catastrophic consequences globally.

Dialogue Remains the Only Path Forward, Al Hashmi Says

Al Hashmi stressed that Qatar continues advancing dialogue and diplomacy to reach a peaceful resolution to such conflicts, describing the effort as neither difficult nor impossible, and reaffirming that negotiations remain the only viable path forward. He added that Qatar's efforts are ongoing and will not pause, given the crisis's global impact.

Hormuz Crisis to Top Qatar's UN Agenda

He noted that a Qatari delegation will take part in the proceedings of the UN General Assembly, with discussions on the Hormuz crisis set to top the delegation's agenda during the meetings.

Qatar Reaffirms Solidarity with Saudi Arabia

On the recent attacks targeting Saudi Arabia, Al Hashmi affirmed Qatar's solidarity with the Kingdom regarding any measures it may take to safeguard its security and territorial integrity.
